Building a Brand
Frotea first opened its doors in September 2012 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The brand was the brainchild of Frotea owner, Engr. Ana Lustre Malijan who recognized the demand for quality milk tea and FroYo (frozen yoghurt) among consumers of all demographics on the island. “I went back to Palawan straight out of college and I wanted to have something on the side. Something that would keep me busy aside from working with my family,” shares Engr. Ana Lustre Malijan. “There’s something comforting about milk tea. It’s something we look for and crave.”
Recognizing the surge in popularity of milk tea and FroYo stores taking over the country, Engr. Malijan decided a change was needed. With this, Engr. Malijan and her team put all their attention into improving Frotea’s strongest product: milk tea. In 2019, Frotea began importing all its ingredient directly from Taiwan. The company’s full-service local commissary accommodates big volumes that ensures quality standards remain consistently high and the standard retail price (SRP) of their products stay low.

“Most people in Palawan didn’t know what milk tea was,” adds Engr. Malijan. “It was a very new concept to a lot of people here. People who usually traveled to Manila were our first customers and before we knew it, hype picked up through word-of-mouth. We got a lot of customers from curiosity.”
